Basketball is a complex game, animated a ton of different movements with your feet. For that reason, picking the right shoe is necessary for your game.
The first thing you need to rule is if you want high tops or mid/low tops. The high tops are great with supporting the ankle, but the mid/low tops give you more maneuverability. Most Nba players use a high top shoe, but a few (most notably Kobe Bryant) opt for a low cut shoe and then tapes his ankles for support. Due to the vulnerability of your ankles while playing basketball, I advise doing one or the other.

The next thing you need to rule is if you will be playing mainly face or inside. Inside basketball will mainly be played on wood, which is a very giving surface. You don't need a very strong tread because it won't wear down.
Which Basketball Shoe Should You Buy?
Outdoors is roughly an entirely different story. You need to find the most durable shoes that are comfortable for you. I'd also personally advise not buying admittedly costly ones. That is because they will wear down much quicker due to the cement surface.
Finally, you should pick a color scheme that fits your style. Are you a flashy type of basketball player? Then you should probably find flashy basketball shoes. Are you more of a classic, old-school type player? There are abundance of shoes with the classic look still being made out there. Whatever you choose, just remember that the shoes don't make the player. Go out and make a name for yourself on the court.
